November Updates and Blog

Schedule updates first, then a blog post - hopefully the first of many posts in which I'd like to share my experiences and thoughts on my yoga practice on and off the mat.

  • This Saturday's Mysore and Sunday's Moon Sequence classes are cancelled.
  • New classes have been added at Evolve-Cary: Tuesdays 12:00-1:00pm Ashtanga Express level 1/2, and Thursdays 5:45-6:45pm Ashtanga Express Level 2. These classes will move quickly, so come ready to jump on the Ashtanga Express! ;-)
  • The next Moon at the Blue is December 2. Join me at Blue Lotus for this great sequence to start your weekend off right!
  • December 4 at Yoga Garden in Apex I'll be offering an Intro to Ashtanga workshop - save the date on your calendars, and keep checking the website for more details.
  • Also look for more info on a Power Hour rotation at Noon on Thursdays at Yoga Garden - I'll be rotating with 2 other teachers for this class.
Why Do I Love Ashtanga So Much?

It's so simple, really. The practice is already set out and waiting for me. All I have to do is come to my mat...which, admittedly, is not always so easy, but is simple! This morning I got up thinking I'd like to go to a class and do something different. So I went online and looked at the schedules for a couple of studios in my area. There were a couple of classes that looked interesting, but I wasn't really sure what to expect from them. Would this class have the backbending I really feel like I need today? Would that one be energetic enough? So I went to my mat, did my practice...and it felt great! That doesn't happen all the time...sometimes it's really hard to get to my mat, and when I do, its not the best practice ever, but I usually find something interesting there...even if it's just the realization that sometimes practice is not so easy. That's the thing about Ashtanga...It takes a little discipline to stick with it at times, but the payoff is definitely there, and the journey is one full of new discoveries. I do miss classes at times, and love to be led through a practice occasionally, just to test out some different paces and draw from that collective energy. But there is really nothing like a self-paced practice to really draw me into myself and allow that deeper exploration that is not always easy in a group setting.
